Akihabara, in English "Field of Autumn Leaves", is also known as Akiba. Akihabara is  famous because it is the place that sells personal robots and robotics.

Besides that, Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, and otaku goods, including new and used items. On the main street, or Chuo-Dori, the newest items are on display, while second hand goods can be found behind Soto Kanda Sanchome.

Computer-building parts, tools, cameras etc. can be found round Soto Kanda Itchome.

Specialty shops, which are located near Akihabara Station, or in big discounts stores like Laox, are place where good deals can be found.

Cosplay, people dressing up in comic book characters lookalike costumes, is part of Akihabara's environment. Many stores employ this reflection of modern Japanese culture to promote their products. They can be found in Harajuku as well.
