Tokyo Metropolitan Government Center Shinjuku

 

 

 

 

     The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Headquarters or Tochō 都庁)  is one of the popular spots where tourists visit in Tokyo and it is the tallest of the skyscrapers west of Shinjuku Station. It is also the house of the bureaucratic machine of Tokyo that totals more or less 170.000 employees.

        It consists of two buildings that both offer free access to their top floors providing a 360 degree view of Tokyo - and more on  including Mt. Fuji clear days - from a height of 202 meters on their 45th  floors. The trip to the top takes 55 seconds. The building of North Observatory stands 243 meters tall.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Center Shinjuku

 

       The is open daily from 9:30 AM to 11:00 PM (closed second and fourth Mondays of each month), while the South Observatory - 45 floors - is open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM (until 11PM on the days the North Observatory is closed; closed on the first and third Tuesdays of each month). Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
